"Hands and Feet"

"Hands And Feet" Audio Adrenaline

An image flashed across my TV screen
Another broken heart comes in to view
I saw the pain and I turned my back
Why can't I do the things I want to?
I'm willing yet I'm so afraid

You give me strength
When I say

I want to be your hands
I want to be your feet
I'll go where you send me
I'll go where you send me

And I try, yeah I try
To touch the world like
You touched my life
And I find my way
To be your hands

I've abandoned every selfish thought
I've surrendered every thing I've got
You can have everything I am
And perfect everything
I'm not I'm willing,
I'm not afraid
You give me strength When I say

I want to be your hands
I want to be your feet
I'll go where you send me
I'll go where you send me

This is the lifetime I turned my back on you
From now on, I'll go so
Send me where You want me to
I finally have a mission
I promise I'll complete
I don't need excuses
When I am your hands and feet

This passage hit me like a package of bricks when I read it last week. I was so surprised that Paul spoke as frankly as he did in the last paragraph, though I'm not sure why, since Paul speaks so frankly in other matters...

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet,"and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

some sharing

I want to share just a few song lyrics that have blessed me.

from "River God" (Nichole Nordeman)
Rolling River God
Little Stones are smooth
Only once the water passes through
So I am a stone
rough and grainy still
Trying to reconcile this river's chill

But when I close my eyes
and feel you rushing by
I know that time brings change
and change takes time
And when the sunset comes
my prayer would be just this one
that you might pick me up
and notice that I am
just a little smoother in your hand

"Anyway" (Nichole Nordeman)

Bless the day this restoration is complete
dirty, dusty, something must be underneath
So I scrape and I scuff
though it's never quite enough
I am starting to see me finally

A gallery of paintings new and paintings old
Guess its no suprise that I'm no Michaelangelo
every layer of mine
hides a lovely design
It might take a little patience
it might take a little time

but you called me beautiful
when you saw my shame
and you placed me on the wall anyway

you who have begun this work will someday see
A portrait of the holiness you meant for me
so I polish and shine till its easier to find
even an outline of mine

from "Every Season" (Nichole Nordeman)

And everything in time and under heaven
Finally falls asleep
...
Even now in death, You open doors for life to enter
You are winter

And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced
Teaching us to breathe
What was frozen through is newly purposed
Turning all things green
So it is with You
And how You make me new
With every season’s change
And so it will be
As You are re-creating me
Summer, autumn, winter, spring.

[you gotta listen to this song at least once. look it up on imeem.com)

Holy (NN)
How many roads did I travel
Before I walked down one that led me to You?
How many dream did unravel
Before I believed in a hope that was true?
How long? How far?
What was meant to fulfill only emptied me still
And all You ever wanted…

Only me on my knees
Singing holy, holy
And somehow
All that matters now is
You are holy, holy
... All I have is gratitude to offer You

from "Legacy" (surprise!--Nichole N)
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

"What If?" (NN)

What if you're right?
And he was just another nice guy
What if you're right?
What if it's true?
They say the cross will only make a fool of you
And what if it's true?

What if he takes his place in history
With all the prophets and the kings
Who taught us love and came in peace
But then the story ends
What then?

But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?
What if you jump?
And just close your eyes?
What if the arms that catch you, catch you by surprise?
What if He's more than enough?
What if it's love?

What if you dig
Way down deeper than your simple-minded friends
What if you dig?
What if you find
A thousand more unanswered questions down inside
That's all you find?

What if you pick apart the logic
And begin to poke the holes
What if the crown of thorns is no more
Than folklore that must be told and retold?

You've been running as fast as you can
You've been looking for a place you can land for so long
But what if you?re wrong?

"Live" (NN)

Did you come that we might just survive?
Did you come so we could just get by?
Did you walk among us
So we might merely limp along beside?

I was bound, I have been set free
But I have settled for apathy
Did you come to make me new
And know I'd crawl right back into the skin you found me in?

It's where I am, not where I've been

You make me want to live
You make me want to live
You came to shake us
And to wake us up to something more
Than we'd always settled for
And you make me want to live

We've all been up on the mountain top
A golden glow that?s bound to soon wear off
Then it's back to the mundane telling tales of glory days
When we were hopeful that this change was here to stay

So why would a young man
Live in a waste land
When the castle of his dreams is standing by?
Why would a princess
Put on an old dress
To dance with her beloved and a chance to catch his eye?

Everyone needs to listen to this song at least once. It will bless your heart so much:
"Revelation Song" (Kari Jobe)
Worthy is the, Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to him who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
to You the only wise King

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder
At the mention of your name
Jesus your name is power
Breath, and living water
Such a marvelous mystery
Yeah...

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You.

"Every Moment" Joy Williams

We laughed out loud ‘til we cried
And the tears were sweet
Midnight melted to morning
A moment faded to memory
All these days
They just slip away through our fingers
So…

Don’t let go
Hold onto every moment
Always know
Hold onto every moment that You can

We move on with no regrets to our destiny
Held by the hands of the Father
We share His love and He leads us through
All these days
They just slip away through our fingers
So…

Running through yesterday into tomorrow
Don’t let it just drift away
Forget about tying the hands of time
Give every minute to the One Who's given today

"Here With Us" (yet another must) Joy Williams

It's still a mystery to me
That the hands of God could be so small,
How tiny fingers reaching in the night
Were the very hands that measured the sky

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Heaven's love reaching down to save the world
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Son of God, Servant King,
You're here with us
You're here with us

It's still a mystery to me, oh,
How His infant eyes have seen the dawn of time
How His ears have heard an angel's symphony,
But still Mary had to rock her Savior to sleep

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Heaven's love reaching down to save the world
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Son of God, Servant King
Here with us
You're here with us
Jesus the Christ, born in Bethlehem
A baby born to save, to save the souls of man
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Heaven's love reaching down to save the world
Son of God, Servant King
You're here with us

"The Hardway" DC Talk

Some people gotta learn the hardway
I guess I'm the kinda guy
That has to find out for myself
I had to learn the hardway, Father
I'm on my knees and I'm crying for help

Now I've been high and I've been low
I've been some places that you will not go
I never thought there would come the day
When I wished I never would've lived this way
But I've been searching for a long, long time
I thought the devil was a friend of mine
I turned my back on everything that was true
And wasted years that belong to you

It took so long for me to see
That I'm a victim of nature and me
Left to myself I realize
I am the maker of my own demise

But you accept me every time and again
And never mention just how selfish I've been
Why must it always take me so long to see
That I have fallen but you will forgive me?

The warning signs are like flares in the night
Still I proceed my greed is in spite of the fire
I know that's bound to burn
Why is it that I always gotta learn...
The hardway, the hardway, I had to learn the hardway

"Take My Life, and Let It Be Consecrated" Lyrics: Frances Havergal

Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee;
Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee;
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise;
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

"Be Still My Soul" Text: Psalm 46:10
Author: Catharine Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel

Be still, my soul; the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heavenly, Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul; thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul, though dearest friends depart
And all is darkened in the vale of tears;
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrows and thy fears.
Be still, my soul; thy Jesus can repay
From His own fulness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Sexuality and God's Word

the following is a note I originally posted on facebook July 21, 2009.
Here is a link to the original, so you can read the comments left by others.

--------

I posted this note tonight in the group "Protect Marriage: One Man, One Woman."
I thought I may as well share it here, to remind my fellow believers of these important references in the Bible about this issue and to inform unbelievers of the truth offered here. These are just a few places in the New Testament that speak on sexuality. I hope this encourages you in your faith, and corrects your thinking where you have gone astray.

There need be absolutely no contention among believers about what God's Word says concerning sexuality in general. I am adamant in my firm belief of the Bible on this issue and pray that you are, too. Paul reminds us that we need to be ready to give an explanation for the hope we have in Jesus.
I Peter 3:15-16
"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."
We also should be prepared to stand firm in our faith, strong in the truth of God which surpasses all things.
I Corinthians 15:58
"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

Philippians 1:27-30
"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have."

Feel free to comment in any way. Try to be constructive, please. Here follows the original note I posted.

Whether you are a believer or not, God *will* have the final say in all things. There is only one truth in this world, and that's His.
And His truth is stated very clearly in His Word.

Hebrews 13
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."[a] 6So we say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"[b]

I Peter 4
1Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. 2As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. 5But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

I Thessalonians 4
1Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 2For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

3It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control his own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; 6and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. 7For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Colossians 3
1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Ephesians 4
17So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

20You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26"In your anger do not sin"[d]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. 28He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Galatians 5
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Romans 1:18-32
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

1 Corinthians 5
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father's wife. 2And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? 3Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. 4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 5hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature[a] may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.

9I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."[b]

I Corinthians 6
12"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, 'The two will become one flesh.'[b] 17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit."

18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

I've heard some people say that if Jesus didn't directly address an issue, then it's a gray moral area. Not so:
II Timothy 3
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

And for that matter, Jesus does speak about marriage, and when He does, there is no mention of a man and man or a woman and woman being brought together in a pure way in the Lord's eyes.

Matthew 19
4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,'[a] 5and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'[b]? 6So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

In addition to all this scripture, I will add that God also commands us to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 9). A homosexual relationship is incapable of doing this. God would not make this command and then condone a relationship which He otherwise scorns to follow it.

Added:
Human kind is sinful. We invent ways to sin.

Romans 3
There is no one righteous, not even one;
11there is no one who understands,
no one who seeks God.
12All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one."[c]
13"Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit."[d]
"The poison of vipers is on their lips."[e]
14"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."[f]
15"Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16ruin and misery mark their ways,
17and the way of peace they do not know."[g]
18"There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Psalm 53
1 The fool says in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.

2 God looks down from heaven
on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.

3 Everyone has turned away,
they have together become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.

I predict that no amount of research into a gay gene or any genetics research to prove that homosexuality is presented in DNA alone is ever going to find that a gay gene of any sort exists. I can confidently say this because God's Word is true. Nothing will be discovered in any scientific study ever that will contradict the Word of God. Rather, it will always reinforce it.

...learning about love and faith

I also posted this on facebook.
----

Well I've been struggling lately with feelings of confusion. I have a yearning desire to know and understand more about the Bible--I'll never be content unless I do. And I should! God's Word tells us to have a reason and prepared to tell about what we believe, the reason for our faith.

God has blessed me so much recently by bringing fellow believers into my life who challenge my faith, answer questions I may have (and may not have asked), encourage me, and build up my faith in Jesus. Whenever I come to Jesus with a doubt or a question and submit it to Him, Jesus brings someone or something into my life and it gets blown away.

Just one of the things I've been in wonderment for a while is why God chose to bless the Israelites/Jews as His people and whether or not He refused anyone else who wanted to serve Him. I was confused about whether the OT peoples had a choice about serving the one, true God. Some people make it seem like the God of the OT was this totally unjust radical, blood-thirsty fiend. Oh brother. Well that question can be answered merely by looking through the Old Testament (I keep saying, don't I, that I need to read through it)! Examples!
Job was not an Isrealite, yet he was a righteous man, so much so that God pointed Him out to Satan as a servant with whom He was pleased.
Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." Job 1:8

God showed mercy to Rahab, the prostitute, because she confessed to the two men she sheltered from Jericho's city guards that she believed and feared the God of the Israelites:
Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof and said to them, "I know that the LORD has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone's courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will save us from death." Joshua 2:8-13

She even boldly asked for her entire family to be spared. and they were!

Joshua 6:20-25

"When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute's house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her." So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.

Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD's house. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day."

They were even given a place among the Israelites! That's pretty gracious, hmm? =)

Noah was around even before Abraham, so he obviously wasn't an Israelite. But God saw that he was righteous in a world of sinfulness, and He showed Noah (and his family) favor.

"The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God."

Genesis 6:5-19

God has never been and never will be an unjust God. He makes the rules, and when we break or utterly defy them, we get punished for it. The people that He allowed to be destroyed had chosen to be wicked.
Sodom and Gomorrah were the staple reference when making a point about godlessness throughout God's Word. Mentions of the cities are laced throughout the Old and New Testaments, both used when referencing the most disgusting of things. No people were more abhorrent to the Lord. They were totally godless and immoral.

"... the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord." Genesis 13:13

Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous." Gen 18:20

The angels of the Lord had even visited with Abraham in Chapter 18, and God promised Abraham that if he found even 10 righteous men in the city, He would not destroy it. But here's what happened:

"The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot (that's Abraham's nephew) was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning."
"No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."
But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

Gen 19:1-5

Then the two angels blinded all the men outside so they could not harm Lot or his family. They helped Lot's family escape after revealing to them that God was going to destroy the city.

"The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,
because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."
Gen 19:12-13

So they got the heck outta there and God rained down sulfur, totally destroying the city.
In Deuteronomy 29, God's anger towards the unfaithful Israelites is described as follows:
"The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur—nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in fierce anger. All the nations will ask: "Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?"

And the answer will be: 'It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt. They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them. 2Therefore the LORD's anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book. In furious anger and in great wrath the LORD uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.'

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law."

Deuteronomy 29:24-29

In Jude:

"Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire." Jude 1:7

Yikes! These people were detestable in God's sight because of their sexual immorality, murderous acts, and generally wicked deeds.

God was never unjust. Truthfully, even though the Israelites were so very unfaithful, God still loved them.
The book of Hosea shows a powerful representation of God's love for His people, of His strong desire to be reconciled to them, but only after they forsook their evil ways, repented, and mourned their unfaithfulness. God told Hosea to marry a woman that would be adulterous and unfaithful to him, but Hosea was to love and care for her regardless. The love Hosea showed for his adulterous wife represented God's love for his people. Here's just a small portion of what God had to say to the Israelites:

"Hear the word of the LORD, you Israelites,
because the LORD has a charge to bring
against you who live in the land:
'There is no faithfulness, no love,
no acknowledgment of God in the land.'"

Hosea 4:1

"For I will be like a lion to Ephraim,
like a great lion to Judah.
I will tear them to pieces and go away;
I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them.

Then I will go back to my place
until they admit their guilt.
And they will seek my face;
in their misery they will earnestly seek me."

Hosea 5:14-15

He wanted their whole, undivided attention, love, faithfulness, everything.

(Israelites:)"Come, let us return to the LORD.
He has torn us to pieces
but he will heal us;
he has injured us
but he will bind up our wounds.

After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us,
that we may live in his presence.

Let us acknowledge the LORD;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth."

(The Lord:) "What can I do with you, Ephraim?
What can I do with you, Judah?
Your love is like the morning mist,
like the early dew that disappears.

Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets,
I killed you with the words of my mouth;
my judgments flashed like lightning upon you.

For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings."

Hosea 6:1-6

Then the Lord decides to curb His wrath and have mercy:

"'How can I give you up, Ephraim?
How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I treat you like Admah?
How can I make you like Zeboiim?
My heart is changed within me;
all my compassion is aroused.

I will not carry out my fierce anger,
nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim.
For I am God, and not man—
the Holy One among you.
I will not come in wrath.

(But He still demands their faithfulness:)

They will follow the LORD;
he will roar like a lion.
When he roars,
his children will come trembling from the west.

They will come trembling
like birds from Egypt,
like doves from Assyria.
I will settle them in their homes,'
declares the LORD."

Hosea 11:8-11

At the end of Hosea, He says,

"Who is wise? He will realize these things.
Who is discerning? He will understand them.
The ways of the LORD are right;
the righteous walk in them,
but the rebellious stumble in them."

Hosea 14:9

God loves us despite our unfaithfulness, but! Looky here in Jude 1:3-4:
"Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord."
Go read Jude, if you haven't lately. you'll be glad you did.

this post is pretty long, but I feel like it's the bare minimum necessary to convey even a fraction of what I'm trying to here about what Jesus has been teaching me lately. Praise God! I'm so humbled by the ways in which the Holy Spirit nudges us when we let Him in. Open up your heart for Jesus to mold it the way *He* wants, and it'll change things around--for the BEST! I will never regret following Christ. I have no shame.
"...I am not ashamed, because I know Whom I have believed, and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day."
II Timothy 1:12b

I was also encouraged by another verse from the teaching last Sunday:
"Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all of this."
I am confident that this verse applies not only to Paul's letter to Timothy, but to all of God's Word. When we meditate on it, God will give us insight and understanding.

A verse from Psalms that I relish:
"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer."

Psalm 19:4

from Psalm 119:
"Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands."

vs. 73

"I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path."
vs. 104
"The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple. "
vs. 130

--
Proverbs 1:1-7

"The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;

for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;

for giving prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young-

let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance-

for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

--

Mark 12:32-33
"...You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
We will never understand everything. But we are commanded to love God with all of our understanding. And He's granted us all that we do understand.

Ephesians 1:7-10
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ."

Aaah, there's so many great verses that mention understanding and credit it as God's gift( I could list them all, but you could just as easily ignore them here as you do your Bible--if your desire is great enough, you'll go look it up)!! However, we must keep in mind that while God does grant understanding as a gift, that also means that He can and does also choose to withhold understanding from those who have rejected Him.

Ephesians 4:17b-18

"...you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts."

Let's also remember that one of the things we will never understand is Christ's love for us, and the peace He so graciously gives:

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. "
Phillipians 4:4-7

In closing (lol, I know this is the longest post EVAR!), I am leaving some lyrics to a song I love by the group "2nd Chapter of Acts:"

Rejoice!
Arise and shine for the light has come!
Rejoice, the Lord is appearing!
The heavens split wide
As He takes His Bride--
Rejoice, the King is coming!
Rejoice!

learning to accept

blurg.

this past week has been emotionally and sometimes physically rough for me for a number of reasons most of which i won't divulge in detail.

the absolute worst part of this past semester has been my stupidity in the area of trying to pursue love when it wasn't the proper timing (to say the least). i won't say it wasn't the "proper man" because that's pretty darn judgmental and i know i could very well be suited for a man that not everyone would get along with peachily. i sure don't fit in with every crowd, and that's fine. but i just decided to go against my better judgment and pursue a guy, knowing that it could end up with me getting hurt.
and i did. but it didn't end up that way immediately. things took several diff turns in directions that i liked, but it was apparently never going just where i thought it was. and now i've basically been rejected. it hurts like a bad word, and i've been struggling quite a bit, to say the least, with handling my feelings about the situation. at first i was relieved to have a straight answer outta him so i could move on. but then i realized just how much i WANTED to be in a relationship. i WANTED to badly to love on him and have him reciprocate all the feelings i had. i realize that i want a man to take care of, love, and lead me.
but in the end, i don't want a man like the one i've been pursuing. he was messed up, and i knew it from the start. but i allowed my carnal desires to get the best of me, and i kept on pursuing that warm body, that tantalizing smell, that tender touch. yes, i want those things. very much so. and i'm all too eager to have them. siiiiigh. i'm a bit at a loss as to where to go from here, but all i've come up with is to continue on, learning from my experiences. negative experiences like this make it hard for me to trust people again, but i keep reminding myself it was partially my fault for doing something i knew would probably not turn out well since the guy had issues.
i wish i could throw away or put on hold these desires for a mate. not just a lover, but a man who'll lead and love like Jesus. trusting the Lord for that is my big problem. waiting in His time, instead of rushing ahead and getting carried away in my fantasies is my problem. Jesus wants me to be in the here and now, not indulging in a dream world. i need to be seeking Him, and i know He'll take care of all my needs.
Perhaps over time, my desires will change. as i grow in my walk with Jesus, and I continue to let Him change my heart, maybe the desires will fade. ..but it takes time, and time has a way of dragging things out...
for now, as i'm home alone, it's hard to avoid the mire of wonderment and sort of self-pity as my heart tends to wander into the domain of "why" and "but." it hurts to have a dream of something so sweet snatched out from under you. i know it's lame and stupid, but my self-esteem has been at zero this week as i feel unattractive and undesirable. instead of opening up to my friends, i tend to lash out in various ways. i mistreat my body instead of taking special care of it, binging (without the purging!! gross!) and not exercising, thus gaining extra--UNWANTED--pounds.

please pray for God's continued work in my heart. that i will open up and let Him work instead of rebelling and being an idiot.

thank you for your love and attention.

to be patient

*contented/half aggravated sigh*
well i just had one of "those" days.
i thought it was gonna be a nice, slow day for once. but no.

haha. i had a ridiculous evening, to the point where i was wanting to just rewind and start over, leaving out a few elements...
but someone at work helped me to remember that someone else always has it worse than i do.
Thank God that person helped me to remember, because i was so frustrated that i gave myself a headache and slight fever. hahahaha fail. think about it. whatever you're going through, someone else is having a worse day. so shut up and pray for God to help you trust Him and be careful what you say and do to others. God's in control.

my grandma cracks me up, despite all her irritating habits and craziness. she's totally oblivious to what's going on around her most of the time, which makes for interesting stories.
[btw, this has nothing to do with the above statement about people having bigger problems than i do. this is just a funny story...]
tonight after work when i picked her up from the grocery store, we went out searching for food, during which time she related to me the "frustrations" from her shopping expedition.
she had gotten in line and "waited and waited and waited" for what seemed like forever. she **finally** gets to the front of the line to her relief, and when she looks at the cashier, she sees her pointing to the lane's aisle sign.
"This is a 20-or-fewer-items lane, ma'am!"
my grandma looks up to see that this is true and says "Ohhhh myyy gosshhh" with an exasperated sigh and probably grumbled her face off and sighed about 10 more times. she sighed because she probably has about twice as many groceries as were allowed. now she had to go wait in ANOTHER incredibly long line.
i laugh. poor dear woman.

---
i then proceeded to starbucks to find two of my friends on their shifts, both having rough or semi-rough days. i never have it so bad that i would want to wear it on my sleeve and make someone else's day worse as well. we need to be careful how our own feelings affect those around us. not that i minded them telling me a little about their day--i asked them, for pete's sake. i care about them and want them to know that.
anyway. good stuff.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Romans 12:10-16

on another note, please pray for my heart's desires to be changed to the Lord's. right now i've got some stuff goin on in there that i know needs to change. i find myself despising the desires and praying constantly for wisdom, patience, and strength. (and common sense, pah.)
